Mike leads the development and delivery of Demeter’s portfolio of innovative financing solutions that help unleash the power of distributed clean technologies.
Previously, Mike worked as a corporate and securities lawyer with an international law firm. He left to focus on solar and renewable energy finance. He co-founded EcoCity Partners where he successfully formed and continues to help manage one of the nation’s first PACE programs, the statewide Florida Green Energy Works Program. He also co-developed several megawatts of ground-mount solar PV with Carolina Solar Farms that supply several hundred homes with solar energy and that are now owned by Duke Energy.
Mike volunteers for the Climate Reality Project, the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation and as Chair of the Board of Blue Planet Writers’ Room. He received his LL.M. degree in Securities and Financial Regulation, with distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center, his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and his B.A. from the University of Florida. When he is not working he can be seen with his wife, Amy, chasing their three boys, Jack, Leo and William around West Palm Beach, FL.
Phil Tinsley
Co-Founder / EVP of Finance
Phil runs the financial engine that powers Demeter's finance product offerings.
Phil has an extensive background in commercial real estate development and on Wall Street. He has played a key role in the development of more than 3.0 million square feet of commercial real estate with over $1.0 billion in development value including 1,100 hotel keys, 500 units of multifamily & condo, and 150,000 square feet of retail and office. Phil worked on the first project in Dallas to utilize New Market Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, and the EB-5 Federal Funding program.
Phil spent 7 years at Matthews Southwest where he helped lead the development of the award-winning OMNI Dallas Convention Center Hotel, the largest LEED GOLD hotel outside of Las Vegas — financed by a $470 million Municipal Bond offering led by Goldman Sachs and Citigroup.
Before joining Matthews Southwest, Phil spent 5 years on Wall Street with UBS Warburg Investment Bank and Merrill Lynch & Co. He has helped companies raise more than $2 billion in the public markets, including $150 million for Cohen & Steers (CNS), the first publicly traded REIT investor. Phil obtained his dual JD / MBA from the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law and Katz Graduate School of Business and his Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He is a licensed attorney (inactive) in Pennsylvania and also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Phil lives in Dallas, TX, with his wife Shannon and three children. An avid hockey player, on weekends Phil can be found at the ice rink coaching and promoting youth hockey.
